Mission Leader Cards
Instructions for Teacher/Facilitator:

Hover over the appropriate team leader card to reveal the mission for that challenge.

At the start of each challenge, show the current team leader the appropriate card.

Team Leaders read it aloud to their team before roles are assigned.
ATC
Interviews
⏱ Your team will be an interview panel. You’ll have 10 minutes to review candidate resumes create interview questions and 5 minutes max to conduct each interview. Gain or lose points depending on your match combinations.
Assign roles:

Recorder → Writes down answers.

Vibe Checker → Notices body language.

Decision Maker → Announces which candidates are selected.
Charting & Cartography
Build a Route
🎲 Mission Control will give each team an aviation chart and other supplies. Facilitate a team discussion on which new routes are best to use. You have 10 minutes to deliberate.
Assign roles:
-
Route Designer → Places pins and attaches string to connect routes.

Hazard Checker → Assesses areas to avoid.
-
Presenter → Announces which routes were selected and why it works for the new traffic corridor.
Charting & Cartography
Symbol Decoder Relay
🎲 Mission Control will give each of your team members an aviation chart symbol card. Scattered throughout the room are definitions for those symbols. Stand in line one behind the other, and take turns matching the symbols to the definitions.
⏱ If your team finishes in 60 seconds or less, you will receive 5 points. Lose 1 points for time over 60 seconds.
Flight Data & Planning
📍Select 5 flight plans on file for your team. Accurately complete blank flight plans (page 26). Then, cut out flight plans approved by Mission Control.
Assign Roles:

Recorder → Writes information onto blank flight plans

Lead Sorter → Sorts flight plans according to Mission Control's criteria.

Bay Sorter → Configures the departure bay flight plans.
Weather Service Unit
Weather Decision Board
Mission Control will provide your team with weather reports and 6 airport pairs to make recommendations for. Take 10 minutes to analyze the weather reports. Create a Weather Decision Board on your team table or on a white board.
Assign roles:

Board Manager → Uses CARDS to update the Weather Decision Board

Report Analyst → Deciphers what info is pertinent

Presenter → announces the team's decision

Wind & Runway Selection
Select 6 airports from the previous first activity. Research the runways at these airports.
Assign roles:

Data Analyst → Research runways at each airport (online)

Risk Analyst → Considers delays or problems with selected configurations.

Presenter → Delivers the chosen runways for each airport
Tech Operations & Systems
TechOps
Select a circuit project. Carefully, read the instructions on how to build your project.
Assign roles:

Organizer → Selects the correct components for the circuit

Builder → Builds the circuit board
-
Quality Assurance → Ensures that the circuit is functioning properly
Weather Service Unit
Storm Path Simulation
Decide where to place two storm systems (cotton balls) within your airspace. Note: Storms on edge of your airspace just loop back around to the other side.
Assign roles:

Map Manager → Moves storms around the airspace

Risk Analyst → Predicts which area airports are affected

Presenter →Announces the recommendations
